During the last six years Rex has managed the DPI South African company. DPI South Africa is now regarded as a leading consultancy in the field of Strategy and has a client base of many pre-eminent South African companies.

As a specialist strategic consultant Rex has led over 70 Strategic Projects across a broad segment of industries in both South Africa and the United Kingdom. The Financial Services, Construction, Property, IT, and Manufacturing industries have been major fields of activity. A list of some of the clients served is available with contact names of CEO's on request

Rex was born and educated in England and moved to South Africa in 1960. He joined the Unilever organisation and worked in the cost accounting function whilst studying for the CIS and Institute of Marketing qualifications.

Starting, in 1964, as an executive trainee in Checkers, the Supermarket Division of Greatermans Stores, he rose through the various management levels to be appointed CEO in 1976. Checkers strategic direction was successfully redefined and the company developed over the next 8 years into the country's largest and most successful Supermarket chain employing 14,000 people in over 200 stores.

In 1982 Rex joined "The Tongaat Hulett Group", one of the country's largest industrial conglomerates. He was appointed CEO of their emergent Foods Division. The company was restructured and re-capitalised resulting in a number of acquisitions and divestments. It emerged as a significant player in food and packaged consumer goods industries employing 15,000 people in seven divisions. Rex resigned in 1992 to establish a consultancy company, which became DPI in 1994.

During his career Rex worked actively to assist the South African black business community to play a more significant role in the commercial life of the country. He served for a number of years as Chairperson of the "National African Chamber of Commerce Liaison Committee in Natal" and was actively involved in community upliftment and development programs.
